So how much is a brand worth? Arguably when I joined AOL in 2002, their brand was in a terrible place, especially in the youth sector that I was concentrating on, (I would believe it's in a much worse state now...AOL seems to have lost it's relevance), but a damaged brand. It seems Apple's brand just keeps getting bigger and better. In a new Bain study, 21% of Europeans would buy an Apple CAR! Yes a Car! Even though they have never mentioned, designed, been quoted or possibly even thought of going into the automotive sector, (who would), their brand is so strong, it supports totally new categories. Here's the report from Silicon Alley's "Alley Insider":

Thoughts? Would you buy an apple car?
Timely article... my wife and I were just speculating how long it would be before you could chose the OS for your car, and then have all the 'utility' apps (audio, GPS, location based services) run on top of that. In that case, I'd definitely choose an Apple OS for the car... imagine an 8x10 iPhone-like interface in the middle of the dash!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, I would be standing in line at the dealership. Think back to what we all considered a computer, it was a black or grey box. Apple came out with the multicolored iMac and changed the electronics industry...imagine what they would do if they were designing a car. Hmmmm iCar!!!!
